Taking the plunge

When I shared my post about having a retirement plan at 44, many people laughed—likely because they thought I was too young to be thinking about it!

For me, retirement means spending my afternoons on the golf course, and that vision has been driving me forward. Last November, I took my first golf lesson, and a year later, I’m thrilled to say I can now play 18 holes - with still some ‘zigzagging’ but still.

Although retirement is still a distant goal, and my golf game has come a long way in one year, I realise the need to speed things up a bit to make sure I am ready when the time comes. To reach my goal, I need more time and flexibility to practice. After all, what’s the point of retirement if I can’t enjoy it?

This reflection has also led me to make another big decision.

After 20 years working in professional services for large corporates, I feel it’s time to give back and share my experience more broadly. I want to work with more companies and focus on the areas I’m passionate about.

So, I’ve decided to take the plunge and become a sole trader.

It’s both scary and exciting, but I’m looking forward to having the flexibility to help others, share my knowledge, and (hopefully) improving my golf!
